DotA Discussion / Re: Dota1 VS Dota2
« on: January 31, 2013, 11:58 »
200-300£ and you have decent computer that can play dota 2

maybe in estonia thats a relatively low price, and can earn it by working part time jobs, but in yugoslavic countries the minimum wage is ~150 euros P/M (and most part time jobs have this minimum wage) so unless you are older and have a decent job and you are a gamer you could spend money on a gaming-built PC (wich ironically due to the job leaves you much less time to play). Or if you are a teenager, you can't afford 1 unless your parents buy one (and you know the excuse "your current one runs perfectly fine")

Truth is that Dota2 is jsut like Diablo 3.
You think its kinda different, better but its only job is getting more people to play in. When you finally install it and play abit you see the only thing that changed is hard graphix and the money potential.
Everything else is same, why changing something thats already a legend? Adding graphix, sounds, effects and high tournament rewards is nothing else than buying players.
So making everything better is a bad thing  ???

I won't go into which one is better, that is a personal, highly subjective thing, but truth is Dota 2 has much bigger potential because it has enormous assets and no limitations that Dota has because of outdated War3 engine.

Regarding other points TC made:
-animations/effects/sounds are something that requires getting used to. Same thing was when you would switch from SC:BW to War3 (or even SC2 much later) so it's just a matter of practice. Besides lots of effects and graphical features can be adjusted with console commands and options.(Also, War3/Dota1 do not have retro graphics, that term is used for something else)
-Too many noobs? Playerbase of D2 is much bigger therefore more less skilled players is a given. Proportionally there is probably same amount of noobs, there are many people who play D1 and still suck at it, not to mention a lot of people who play D2 (in low skill bracket) probably did not play D1 or played other similar games that require less skill. Besides you will encounter noobs in D2 only if you have low skills as well, most of the time you are matched with similar players.

I would actually say one of biggest advantages of Dota 2 is the community (minus the Russians :P). It is much better than Dota communities, with less abusers/hackers, much more produced content for it, generally healthy discussions, etc.
All in all, D1 v D2 is a stupid debate, it is subjective, but fact is D1 communities are dying while D2 is on the rise. Same thing happened with SC:BW and SC2. Will Dota 2 be as big as Dota 1 in it's peak? Maybe not, but neither will Dota 1 get any bigger in the future, it is just a bunch of small sites/forums/communities.

You have got a good point. But it all comes down to personal preference. Until Ice frog stops development for dota1 people are still going to play dota1. Also as many people in the balkans play dota1, many players don't have the resources to play dota2. Whilst i can play dota2 with decent graphics without sacrificing fps, many of my friends can't afford a better pc to play dota2 so they just stick to dota1

Its always same, when new version of something is made, ppl go for new version.

Would you stay at Intel Pentium IV or would you got for Intel Core i7?
Would you use 5 years old version of web browser or would you update it for latest version?
Win 95 or Win 7?

By your logic, everything newer is better? Then why do a lot of people still play dota1. And stop comparing things that are irrelevant, don't compare an overly outdated OS or CPU with a brand new one. DOTA1 is not outdated, people are still playing it ON LOTS OF different platforms, saying dota1 is like win95 is an insult. Maybe if you compared XP with Win7 it would be alright, i mean win95 and win7 aren't even closely similar. Do you even computer?

this is like going in a basketball game and asking one of the fans: "hey, which one is better football or basketball"

You are WAYY off.

What i am doing here is comparing a game with a derivativ of the same game. Football and basketball aren't even in the same genre of sport. The one is a foot-played sport and the other is a hand-played, the only thing they have in common is that they are both played with a ball and that they both are sports. Dota2 and Dota1 are VERY similar if not the same game. My comparison is like comparing SOFTball and Baseball or rugby and american football. Your comparison is like comparing CoD/BF/CS:S with WoW

IMHO d1>d2
Here's why

Pro's in dota1
- Less effects in dota1 makes it look more cleaner and not confusing
- No awkward gameplay from unnoticeable animations and background textures
- Too many noobs in Dota2
- Retro graphics makes the game seem more "Pro-like" and less childlike. (for some its a con)
- More content (i know d2 will have all the heroes in the near future so it doesn't really matter)

Dota2 Pros:
- Dota2 is newer, therefore more support and development
- Dota2 is free and easy to set up thanks to valve's steam
- Cool graphics and sound FX
- Lots of competitive games and live streams
- Bigger playerbase and more active forums and discussion boards

Feedback / [Suggestion] Gagging flamers
« on: November 22, 2012, 11:49 »
Hey LA staff.

Many times when i am bored i go check the ban request section in the forum, and what i have noticed is that there are many requests against flamers, so why not implement a simple yet effective method against flamers like gagging them in game? On top of that you can also implement the 3-strike out method which as the name implies, you autoban a player that has flamed 3 times in a single game. Sure people will still flame, but i think that this idea will dramatically lower the number of flamers, and generally improve the gaming experience. The punishments should look like this:

- First time flame: gag for 1 minute

- Second time flame: 5-10 minutes

- Third time: autoban (same time as he would leave a game)

Also while gagged, you can whitelist some of the commong phrases like: ss, b, top, bot, mid, cd, oom, bb etc.

Vote on the poll and give me opinions

Me playing my favorite hero (tinker) in a casual pub, that turned into an epic game. I don't know why we lost tho , maybe because of me milking more kills, or that we were 4 since min 7. Epic game nevertheless. rate pls

There was a small (~6 minute) gap between the games.

First game starts: ~ 1:44
He leaves first game: ~2:06
He joins second game which starts: ~2:09
First game ends and he gets banned: 2:15
He leaves second game: ~2:30
Second game ends and he gets a second ban: 2:40

maybe, he left got autobanned, then before the game ended he started another game and left again. This is an unavoidable bug, autoban works after the game is finished and added to the database.

Strategy / Tinker nuker build
« on: September 21, 2012, 01:17 »
Lets keep the strategy section alive...

So watch my pub tinker with nuker build (BoT dagon 5 dagger etheral) and have your thoughts about it (the strategy/build not my gameplay). IMO its the best tinker for pubs, and u can instagib any hero with <1600 hp (no additional magic resistance).

Inb4 low farm
inb4 everything works on pubs

General Discussions / Re: IP BAN : usefull or useless ?
« on: September 05, 2012, 22:34 »
Connect forum/ingame accounts, get activation by SMS (mobile). I dont think that MHERS would take XX mobiles to activate XX accounts. Maybe 3/4 max.

MH detected - ban that mobile number gg, when u ban 3/4 he wont take another. In couple weeks u will clean LA Mhers.

 :-X

why not making activation by paying 50 euros ?

Stupid question. Do u always have 50 euros? If you have, then u must be rich. IDK for u, but I'm shure most players here have mobile phones. So it's easy to activate, no multi-acc, no mhers(atleast decreased), and u dont have to pay it, u just need ur mobile phone. It's so easy, but u have answer on every question/or comment on everything without thinking at all.
