DotA Discussion / Invisible tooltips
« on: May 23, 2020, 23:45 »
Mouse-over tooltips for items have no descriptions. Any ideas?

There are 3 known solutions to this problem:

Looks like you tried 2 of them already and it didnt work for some reason.

Try this:

Update your GPU drivers.

Try the adapter value change together with opengl switch (try running with opengl with value 0 and then with 1). Looks like the game detects no video drivers for some reason.

If .net fails to install on your pc that is getting even weirder.. googling for .net framework 0x800F0906 does return official troubleshooting from microsoft.

The black screen is usually from cinematics and is a directx problem afaik. Try enabling opengl.

Only half of these are protips, a bit disappointed really. But ok, it will do for a start.

Opened a todo ticket, will be included when it floats up on the list. Closing.

Unbanned. Remember to stay in the game a few seconds after throne is destroyed, just in case of lags/delays etc.

This was the last gproxy version before update that worked (attached). Unfortunately I won't be able to fix the new one because a dll we need wants to call an unexisting function in kernel32.dll which does not exist in XP. So all your XP users will either:

1. Update because honestly, I just don't have the time to deal with these problems for 10 people that still use XP. It is 2020.
2. Keep this copy of gproxy around and always replace it after update..

If you still have problems after replacing the new gproxy.exe with old one, try deleting botan.dll.

Let me know how it goes.

I stopped the update for now until I find a fix.

Old instaler is here:

Should replace all files and get those affected back on pre-update.

This is old gproxy, see if still works on XP. Unpack to folder. If it doesn't launch from client set console=1 in gproxy.ini and run it manually, then w3l.exe. This i just to keep the XP guys alive until I find the problem.

I haven't tested on XP but i assumed it works since I didn't change anything big really. Will investigate on my old machine.

Everything is restarted now, disk freed. Hopefully it gets better.

The reason it is hard to do anything is:
1. Not a single line of code changed on the bots
2. Same server
3. No major change in server load
4. Ping seems reasonable (50 for me right now)

Right now I lack the tools to identify what the actual problem is. I have no metrics and packet time measurements in bots or gproxy to really see what is going on. :/

The reasonable explanation is that since whole europe is in lockdown the internet connections are highly loaded and the experience is worse. But I have no actual data to back this up or find the source of the problem.

Hmm, this:

is not ok. Did you install any of the beta releases by chance?

We need 1.26 for dota, 1.28 just happens to be the last thing we can support and has some ok patches (map size, native fullscreen). It is true, you can't see the games which is actually good because of a possibility of desync.

No real good solution here.

We will fix the logs server side soon enough, it has been on my TODO list. As it was mentioned above it is a bit complex to do but I have a basic idea in mind.

Until then, people can use this helpful script if they need it fixed right now.
