Title: IP ban
Post by: mysto_gan on May 13, 2011, 11:00
ok guys no one can deny that most of the times we c someone ruining the game and just leave and we all dont like it right?does he rly care about being banned? no b/c shortly he just go ahead and make another account and can ruin games again by leaving when he lose or when he c his team feeding so i suggest the IP ban from here

how it works?well it goes like this .. when u leave a game u get 1 day IP ban then when u leave next time u also get 1 day ip ban that way the player will limit himself from leaving when that occur a lot and 1 day is effective and in same way its not so long that u may crash the computer ( i talk about nolifers here)

someone maybe say: sometimes i have to leave for work friends etc. ... or i rly get dc
i say: well its 1 day and also its ur fault that u r joining a game and u know u have to leave so blah same to ppl who disconnect and anyway there is gproxy there ..

someone maybe say: omg the game is totally unbalanaced and i was afk then i knew it ... my team r total idiot feeders
i say: look at the link bellow ... nightstalker had team of feeders (all 4 and huskarr had 17 1 score if u watch replay)he didnt ff or say omg my team is idiot (like crix ..)even if u have a feeder noob team if ur pro u can do it and night stalker is a good example (dont tell me night stalker is so fucking pro he is special case b/c anyone can be the best if he want to)
http://playdota.eu/stats/game/1812280/boba (http://playdota.eu/stats/game/1812280/boba)

how this ip ban will help?
1-he will limit the numbers of leavers in each game
2-it will the balance command works better (some leavers make new accounts and join noob games to ruin games ... and the balance command get fucked up)

i could be wrong and i could be right and i hope that admins (specially totally screawed)b/c i think he is a real pro to consider this suggestion

if u agree with then i rly apprieciate it and if u disagree say ur reasons and cheers  ;)

whenever u restart ur router u get different IP,if u have dynamic IP adress...but there are also ways to ban those ppl too...u can ban IP range...but also there are ways to avoid that ban with some programs (i don't wanna say to u what are the programs for that :D),but u need very good internet speed for that...

Yea, IP ban may look like good idea, but some players have dynamic IP and if you ban IP range you may ban someone who didn't break any rules.
There are also ways how to connect with hidden/not yours IP. Ask hackers, they never show their IP when hacking something...

u won't be able to play cheater free game, as long as this game is for free so u can make new account every time u get banned.. so only way to play the game without cheaters is a game where u buy your profile and u can have only one account, so if u cant handle maphackers buy hon account or wait dota 2 .. some of the top players in pd ladder are using maphack which is sad really and i feel sad for those ppl who even think about maphacking ..

So you rather play with leavers instead of  smaller amount of people who play full games

PD staff cant ban ip. Only xpam staff can and they wont cause PD games are considered as custom games.
Title: Re: IP ban
Post by: Melissa on May 13, 2011, 15:14
but if they are considered as custom games why maphackers get IP LOCK AT EUROBATTLE.NET ?
because in rules = custom games + mh = no ban ,
thats how i remember

Maphacker get IP lock on ladder games... in custom games they don't give a shit about it because they have bots and bots will take that action by banning ppls....

you didnt understand me

If you use maphack in custom games (not hosted by playdota.eu) they dont ban you
But if you use maphack @ playdota.eu they ban your ip on eurobattle.net

lol
fail
it reduces nothing cause the people who making 1000acc in pd.eu are the 20% of our ocmmunity
Just ignore them
they will never learn dota ....
we know that they are pathetics anyway
just let them make 1000emails and then 1000accounts
well they will tired someday :P

actually, this is not true.
u can have xxxxx as ip, then restart the router, and lets say u have 666666 (totally diferent number, they dont
look alike at all, in nothing). but i assure u, that your reverse dns address, is pretty much the same. only the crappy number at the beginning changes. I have personally asked for this feature to be use, but we have places where there is a high density of dota players (some cities of Serbia, Romania and Turkey to name a few examples) and it would kinda unfair that we issue those ip/reverse dns ban on some people , and not on others.
so , in hard offenses, we do the work of "hunt" someone manually, and ban all their accounts.
Yes, they can make new one, but they will need more than a month to have a decent sd

How about this one:
IP ban instead of ban and ban on new accounts (no dota games played on pd bot so far) on whole IP range (let's say 7 or 14 days).
This will allow proper players with same ISP to play with their accounts and make banned user connecting to new games much harder.

yes and no
yes, because of some retard mess up a game, u cant ban all players that are from that place, location (game house, cyber, whatever). however there are some cybers, that come with MH per default :/

The 2nd part is exactly what you want when someone shares the IP with multiple users and you want to ban only 1 of them (ban on new accounts (no dota games played on pd bot so far) on whole IP range (let's say 7 or 14 days)).

Title: Re: IP ban

well, let me tell you from experience, that IP banning is a strong tool to use, but requires a lot of work.
There is VERY few people with static IPs, plus the nature of the MOBA games (like DotA) promotes communal play - in other words, people form one place tend to play together, as the word spreads. Therefore you might end up banning innocent people on that IP.
It requires a lot of work, because if you know a player is changing his IP (because it is dynamic), you have to constantly track him or her, which you can imagine is a hell lot of work, considering the number of players.

Title: Re: IP ban

And if u have an heart attack while u r playng?
Then there are two options:
1) If you will not survive it you won't care about ban.
2) If you survive it you can ask for unban.

Imo IP ban can't be used. That's all.

Better idea is just to kill all leavers/hackers.
Locating every of them in the world, getting to them and killing them is kinda hard task, but at least he won't play anymore.
Another downside is...it's not legal,so...pff maybe it's just better to quit DotA,or have patience.

Well. I didnt read any of the sites of your conversations.. but  I can say only one thing.
If there will be such thing as IP ban (i dont say its exactly ip ban - jsut something that has same effect) alot of players would be much more careful with breaking rule.

And 80% dont know the default pass of router XD  -if u restart the router u loss the current user/pass and set it to default-

But there are another solution: if u host games dont let join ppl with less than X games.

or just make bot count your left games and show them when you !sd someone. Then just kick leavers.

listen to docta....  ip ban is nothing special.. u can always manipulate it. if u r pro hacker... changing dynamic ip,deleting registry and stuff can get u unbanned again..
