Title: W3 graphics update

Feel free to write your own option if you dont find it in those 10 or any other thing that you have to say (but stick to the forum's rules).


I want to make a patch with improved graphics for eurobattle's users. It will not be forced to you, it will be available just for the ones that want a new look for the game.

IMPORTANT THING: This topic is about free patch which will affect on skins only on single PC. So when testing skins is finished, it will be probably announced. Players will be free to use them, it won't be implemented directly on the map.



It will be done only if I get enough feedback from you guys.

I have some video settings and a mod that changes almost everything but is messing up dota (needs files path fixing, model rescalling, adding/eliminating models, textures, etc). None are made by me. You can find them on internet, I will not post here links or keywords (but some screenshots will be posted).

All the options from the poll can be used but mby most of the players would want some changes but not overall.

I'd like just to have some optimalization. I play mostly dota and the only thing that i don't like are graphic freezes. I know I don't have super nice comp so for me probably adding new stuff will only provide less frames per second xD.

As for now it's ok. W3 has it own climat but if I d like sth new it would be new hero or creeps models. It could be nice for eye maybe my comp would handle it xD.

Also why are you even making this, it's not like you're the warcraft 3 developer and you're thinking about making some changes for the game.

My opinion about this is, graphics are the most irrelevant part of a game, the gameplay is the most important part of a game, if you want a game to be more interesting you should make the gameplay more interesting.
Pretty lights and other bullshit attract mostly only idiots.

Also why are you even making this, it's not like you're the warcraft 3 developer and you're thinking about making some changes for the game.

My opinion about this is, graphics are the most irrelevant part of a game, the gameplay is the most important part of a game, if you want a game to be more interesting you should make the gameplay more interesting.

Actually I am thinking about making some changes for the game and I dont need to be the game's developer for this. The game has user-made mods/models/textures/maps/sounds/AI scripts/icons/etc every year since  its release. Was abandoned by Blizzard and kept alive and "updated" by users (reason for it's 1.27 official patch). The gameplay is out of our amateur reach (IceFrog and Dracol1ch currently have this job) but we can have better graphics. I didnt wrote my ideea here because I was waiting first feedback from the Staff. In every game's description, ever made , you will find graphics among gameplay, storyline and sound. MOBA doesnt have storyline, is gameplay based (so I agree with you) but the 2nd most important thing after gameplay are the game's graphix. If you dont agree then go ahead and play the game with the video minimum settings. Pretty lights and other bullshit may attract players from other platforms that have the same gameplay like here (is just 1 gameplay for DotA, with little difference between the last versions of the maps). Anyway, this server needs players, is pointless to invest such work and effort for a handful of pros that not even show some gratitude.

Edit: i also just realized that you are mixing warcraft 3 and dota. Icefrog didnt keep the game updated after blizzard stopped caring about warcraft 3 lmao xDDD

Again you are mixing the entire warcraft 3 with dota... The images of those units which you posted arent improved graphics of the current dota heroes, those are totally different units. Not to even mention that you don't even need a new warcraft 3 patch to add new units into a map.

I'm not making the models, textures, etc. They are already made for the game but it doesnt fit for dota. There are all in a mod. I will just edit it. I need to fix filepaths for some hero models (tiny, trax, etc, for example), I need to rescale the models (trees are to big, undy doesnt fit the window when he ulti, wind is to tall, sniper is to small, etc), I need to fix the terrain (the unpathable textures used by IceFrog doesnt fit the rest of the terrain and ofc is visible). After this things I will test to see if all work properly and then I will make a installer that replace the game's 4 main archives (.mpq). It will be the same game, it will just have other textures and models (depending on your feedback). I forgot to add the game's interface to the options but I think I will exclude it anyway, it looks wierd.

About the video settings: registry entries (doesnt mess with the game's path). The models and textures are HD, this settings are somethng extra, for further graphic improvement, but needs more testing, the mouse cursors  is losing some precison (in game), it may be bcs of my video board. The video settings works for the current models and textures too (I got it from another mod).

Warcraft 3 = the game
Dota 1 = a map in that game

I am not including them in the map. I am not editing the map. I am editing the game. The maps gets 99% of its resources from the game's archives. I am giving it other resources.

Those are improved graphix. I am losing to much time to make screenshots of the original ones so I can compare them. The guy that created this models used the original sketches. While old Krob is made from 4-5 parts and most of it's details are just "shape", the new Krob is made from 83 parts, providing all the details that were meant by the original designers. There are some models that got new parts and scales (not included in the originals), Tiny for example, but you can still see that is the same sketch. This arent models like in DotA 2, where they replaced all (m,ade new heroes), this are upgrades to the original warcraft 3 units. There are some rip-offs from WOW too. Magina for example. Is highly detailed and has 8 combat animations while the original W3 models had one or max two.

When I say "patch" I am refering to a instaler that "patches" files to W3 directory. It can easily be done by just replacing the game's archives with the ones provided by the mod but I recall how much chaos was when the eu client installer needed update or a new map needed to be downloaded to the w3 directory. It is better to make a single file installer that do this thing for the user. He goes double-click, next, next, finish and problem solved.

More like it's pointless to invest such work in a game that has been dead for several years, is dead even now, and will continue to be dead for all time.

I don't care about minimum/maximum settings, I can play both ways with absolutely no difference to my enjoyment. I'm interested in the fucking game, not the way it looks, I don't give a single shit how this game or any other game for that matter looks, I play it and other games only for the gameplay, for example I downloaded warcraft 2 again 6 days ago and I'm doing all the 4 campaigns from it again, do you have any idea how "bad" that game looks compared to warcraft 3 ? I don't give a single shit about that, as long as you can see what is going on it's fine, and the campaigns are pretty fun and some missions are actually challenging even now when you set the game speed to maximum for the whole game as I do.

Most games that are developed nowadays are getting less and less depth and more and more graphics, to the point that they tell you exactly what to fucking do at every step, so you just mindlessly follow instructions and stare at pretty lights, and that's the entire fucking game.

The worst part is that intelligent people who are developing games are discouraged from creating quality big depth ones because why even bother, when some pretty lights and mindless instruction following game will sell just fine, you idiots are ruining the entire world, this shit applies to everything in life not just games, you make smart people invest their time into making shit that is far below their capabilities because they have no reason to bother to create anything better since you all eat it up anyway.

I mean I have no idea if you're an idiot or not, I'm just saying.
You may just want to do this because you like the game and want to change it for what you consider to be better so you can enjoy it more, if you're doing it for this reason then you're not an idiot.

Most games that are developed nowadays are getting less and less depth and more and more graphics, to the point that they tell you exactly what to fucking do at every step, so you just mindlessly follow instructions and stare at pretty lights, and that's the entire fucking game.

The worst part is that intelligent people who are developing games are discouraged from creating quality big depth ones because why even bother, when some pretty lights and mindless instruction following game will sell just fine, you idiots are ruining the entire world, this shit applies to everything in life not just games, you make smart people invest their time into making shit that is far below their capabilities because they have no reason to bother to create anything better since you all eat it up anyway.

If I would knew how to edit the map I would improved the gameplay and added more heroes (then fixing the bugs) but all can I do is just something simple as replacing some files in those archives. Not all think as you. I like classic games, I will not play a game for, or mostly, for its graphics but I would enjoy to see some boobs on Trax (just a joke example, you get what I mean). Now I am playing: "The Longest Journey" (1999) and "The testament of Sherlock Holmes" (2012) and I have 2GB Video Board. The ideea is just to give it a new look for the ones that want it and hopefully to get users from other platforms or to keep some of ours. Maybe we have players that wants better grphics but their PC is slow. Will they play with Balanar's square face when they will buy a better PC? They will have DotA 2 but maybe they will enjoy the old dota as well, having his beloved W3 classic units in HD. They can be pro or noobs, my interest is to have players here and if all I can offer are just some 3D models then this I will offer. This place is dying nonetheless but we may prolong its lifetime. If we offer nothing and we dont try to keep it alive somehow then it will die as fast as possible. Also why are you even making this, it's not like you're the warcraft 3 developer and you're thinking about making some changes for the game.

My opinion about this is, graphics are the most irrelevant part of a game, the gameplay is the most important part of a game, if you want a game to be more interesting you should make the gameplay more interesting.

Actually I am thinking about making some changes for the game and I dont need to be the game's developer for this. The game has user-made mods/models/textures/maps/sounds/AI scripts/icons/etc every year since  its release. Was abandoned by Blizzard and kept alive and "updated" by users (reason for it's 1.27 official patch). The gameplay is out of our amateur reach (IceFrog and Dracol1ch currently have this job) but we can have better graphics. I didnt wrote my ideea here because I was waiting first feedback from the Staff. In every game's description, ever made , you will find graphics among gameplay, storyline and sound. MOBA doesnt have storyline, is gameplay based (so I agree with you) but the 2nd most important thing after gameplay are the game's graphix. If you dont agree then go ahead and play the game with the video minimum settings. Pretty lights and other bullshit may attract players from other platforms that have the same gameplay like here (is just 1 gameplay for DotA, with little difference between the last versions of the maps). Anyway, this server needs players, is pointless to invest such work and effort for a handful of pros that not even show some gratitude.

IMPORTANT THING: This topic is about free patch which will affect on skins only on single PC. So when testing skins is finished, it will be probably announced. Players will be free to use them, it won't be implemented directly on the map.

I kept repeating it and it seems that you are the only one that gets it.

@DoomBringer: Patch that changes skins/models free to use for whoever wants to use it. Game/Map will be the same as now. It will be modified only by who wants to modify it and it will work only on the PC where got modified. While you play Doom Bringer you will see Luci as it is, the one that installed the patch will see Luci in HD.

It isn't a patch as the ones you think off. I just call it that way. It will replace 4 files from the game's directory. For deleting it you will only have to paste there the original 4 files that you will backup before instaling the "patch" (I dont think I will manage to make backups with the installer, it may be out of my league). Anyway, is simple to instal and delete, is just 4 files than needs replaced in W3 directory.

I fixed trees size for the Sentinel and now I'm fixing the terrain. I think I'll have it done in max 7 days and will be shared with the few of you that want it. I will make 2 versions: one with overall modifications and max video settings and one with just hero's models replaced and the current video settings of the game (for slow computers). It may be on the like of a handul of players, bcs I'm editing in my way, but, then again, I had just 15 voters till now -1 (me) and -6 that thinks the game looks perfect as it is.

I fixed the terrain and the trees. I've remade the textures for cliffs to fit the map's custom tileset (that's why it had those lines near cliffs). Now I am trying to replace the blight from Scourge side. Abour the sound: I will need sound files for heroes. Music will be left as it is but I can replace the "special" song with something else, just for fun. I need suggestions for music.

Read at least my 1st topic before you reply. You have screenshots here (a lot of them) and all the info that you need. You just need to watch for 2-3 min what is going on here.

I repeat myself for the 3-4th time (I lost track). This models and textures are created and are upgrades to the original W3 models. All belong to a W3 mod that works fine for the campaigns but it doesnt fits for dota.
-trees are to big (you cant see shit because of them)
-there are models for 97% of the heroes (and creeps) but for some heroes the filepath directs to the old models
-terrain is messed up because DotA has custom tileset: cliffs texture doesnt fit the ground texture next to them, for this reason you can see some lines all over the map (near cliffs)
-Scourge Throne missing
-Scourge rax textures doesnt fit the rest of the buildings
-Pudge doesnt have hook (the skill animation doesnt have a model for the hook)
-Undy get 10x bigger than any other hero when he goes ulti
-Void is to big, Sniper is to short; most of the models need rescaling and this is the hardest part because I must take every model and edit it
-Crow courier is a unit (druid of the talon)
-some spell animations doesnt fit the models
-I need to take every single hero and use his skills to check that all is ok
This are just some of the bugs that I discovered yesterday. I am pretty sure that there are many more.

The guy that created the mod made it for the campaigns and standard games, not for custom maps like dota. There is a DotA 2 mod on the internet that works fine but I dont want DotA 2 mod. I have DotA 2 installed in PC and I dont even play it. DotA 2 modifies all in a complete new game. This mod just upgrades the old classic W3. You have screenshots in my first post. There are many W3 mods on the internet but this is the only one that is pro made and sticks to the original. You will find it, among other W3 mods, here: http://www.moddb.com/

Today I fixed the trees from Sentinel side and some from the Scourge.
Trees where for Ashenvale and, for some reason, they were scaled so big that the entire map looked like a jungle, as you can see in some screenshot that I posted in a earlier post. I've extracted some tree models meant for Lordareon and Cityscape and I replaced with them those from Ashenvale. I tried many models to get a good design (those trees mixed togheter may look bad) and I think I still have to get 1 more model replaced so it looks nice. I done this by editing the w3.mpq with, ofc, MPQ Editor tool.

For terrain: i extracted the texture for cliffs (dirt and grass variations), then I extracted the texture for Felwood (map's basic tileset). Coverted them in bitmap. Croped pieces from tileset textures and remade with them the textures for cliffs. I converted the new cliffs texture back to .blp and imported it in the w3 archive replacing the old ones. Now the lines are no longer there because the c;iffs have now the same texture as the ground next to them.

You are talking bullshit. I'm not editing the map, I cant edit the map. I am editing the W3 game. The map gets it's files from the game's archives. By replacing a texture in the game's archive that the maps uses it you will get that texture in the map. The maps graphic elements (imported directly into the map) are: Lancer's model, that christmas tree, hats, items as gifts and probably one more thing. All that you see in DotA are in fact W3 resources. DotA is just a bunch of scripts in a simple map. I dont think Dracol1ch is importing his own resources in the map. I made this topic for feeback (your feedback). Except the game's scripts (functionality) I can change everything, I;ve got all the resources I need on the internet. I'm pretty sure that the mod's creator took resources from others and compiled them in a brand new archive, it can be all his work, a single hero model needs weeks of work for making it from scratch and the archive has hundreds of models (heroes, buildings, creeps, trees, props, etc). I was hoping that I will get enough votes so I know on what I should focus from those options bcs I dont think that users will enjoy a total remake, mby most of them just want new hero models and nothing more. Also I wanted to see if people want it so I wont work for nothing. I didnt got enough feedback but I decided to make it anyway because I searched the net and found out that there are a shitload of topics about improving DotA 2 graphics or mod requests for it. If players got bored of DotA 2 look just imagine DotA 1 players. This topic was simple: it had a title, a poll, a description with reasons and screenshots, the rest of "the drama" was for slow-minded users like you and dotadrenaline. There is nothing simple here, this isnt the only thing I'm doing it and it was done before but not for DotA. You will find a DotA 1 to DotA2 mod but you wont find a mod that just upgrades the original DotA.

I am not creating the units but I need to edit them so I can re-scale and isnt as simple as just clicking a zoom in/out button. The models can also be scaled from the maps settings but I'm not editing the map.

We are talking about a software that is fixing bugs and improves the game: this is a patch. What I am doing? I am fixing the bugs that the mod creates them in DotA and making one app that install it in the W3 directory, affecting war3.mpq, war3x.mpq, war3patch.mpq and war3xlocal.mpq by replacing most of its resources. Basically the patch was supposed to inject the new files and paths in the old archives but since the files are already imported in the archives that I got (the mod) and 80% of their content is modified the app will replace the old archives.

You do not know about I am talking about (even if I provided you more than enough info) but you keep giving your opinion: only idiots do such things. The only thing that made you consider this thread to be some attention seeker/drama thread is the fact that you are doing this kind of things. You thought "Why is this guy doing this?", you got the ansewar by replacing yourself with me ("Why I would do it If I was him?") => "Ohh, he seeks attention like a do every single day in 90% of my posts."

Ey man, just wanna say it's a neat idea. I really liked some of the graphics update 6.85  had in comparison with 6.83. I've looked through some things you posted and some I liked some I didn't.  For me it is more about the gameplay but as I said some graphic updates are always welcome. I'll be checking your progress out. Good job and don't mind these keyboard gangsters. They be all day behind a desk hating on a dude, they are too irrelevant ..

Keep waiting for that mod. The guy is trying to recreate W3 by ripping models and textures from Starcraft II mod : Warcraft, Arm of Azeroth. When he will finish that mod this place will no longer exist. I'm trying too to rip some models from them but just 3-4 models for heroes, nothing more. You dont need a project that is focusing on the game, you need a project that is focusing on DotA. Recreating the game's graphics is usualy focused, by modders, on standard games and campg., not custom maps. That DotA 2 mod sucks. If you want to try a W3 mod I asure you that there are only 2 good mods out there: Heroes Clash (converts to DotA2, not the one posted by you) and WoW: The Fronzen Throne (that I'm currently editing). The first one works fine for DotA, it was intended for DotA but doesnt stick to the classic W3 units, the 2nd one was intended for custom games and camp. so it's full of bugs for custom maps as DotA

You can play it if your computer is good enough for Starcraft II. Download Starcraft II from battle.net and you will have a mod, in it, for Warcraft 3. It is a Warcraft 3 total remake from Blizzard and its free.  It seems that Blizzard only gave the files (models, textures, sounds, etc) for the Starcraft II Editor and some team of modders put it togheter in a Warcraft 3 remake.

I had a similar ideea but I dont think I have enough knowledge to apply it. The game can be shrinked to have only the files needed to work for custom maps (DotA) and with some script editing the game's menu can be set only for 2 things: single player / dota AI practice and battle.net. This way we can have a standalone game ver of DotA 1. I dont know about others but for me makes sense to have a dota 1 remastered. I dont like dota 2 and I dont want different models for dota 1. I want a version of Dota 1 with remastered models that sticks to the originals, that takes around 1GB from disk space and doesnt require to much resources, so anybody can use it. I will try to rush it so I can post a video.

I've tried to make a video but I have some problems that I cant solve; even used 2 screen capturing softs (the whole screen gets a grey mask). I've made screenshots instead. This are different heroes than the ones that I posted in my 1st topic here (some of them may be the same). Collected them from 4 different websites. Credits go to their respective authors/ripers (I will make a list with them after I finish replacing all the heroes).


Sorry for saying that will be done in 5 days. I was busy, this isnt easy to make as I thought, I've compiled my own archives (using 30% of resources from the mod that I presented in my 1st post) and I keep discovering bugs.


About the models sizes: some will look to small, others to big (as Leoric and Pit, for example), it will be fixed.
About 4 models are from DotA 2, terrain looks familiar with DotA's 2, minimap is from DotA 2 (needs updated).

Jugger's healing ward is already changed, witch's death ward same, I have models for observer wards, serpent ward, etc, only sentry I need. Non-hero models that will be changed in the next 2 days: rocks, plants/flowers, neutral creeps, treants, nc camps, water, scourge twrs. Eventually all will be changed, even the main menu.

I have that model too but I want to stick to W3 classics. I have about 4GB of resources: textures, models (from mods, maps and individual). Some are made by amateurs but most of them are Blizzard (rips from Heroes of the Storm, Warcraft: Armies of Azeroth[SC2] and WoW); from DotA 2 I have everything but I am going to use only what I cant find at all (Tinker, for example. I have just one model with him and it sucks, I replaced him with the one from DotA 2)

Mby because I've spent hours searching and downloading from the net models and other resources, gathering 4GB of them, viewing each of them in W3 Model Editor, selecting the best of them (while making sure that they all fits with the originals and have a common look; a HotS model placed next to a WoW old model will make a powerful contrast), replacing them in the game's archives and then testing them to see if all is ok. I've spent an entire day only to fix the terrain/cliffs and trees. I have more than 50 models for trees. I used 1 model without variations (the canopy tree used as a plant in the 1st mod that I've edited) and made 4 variations with it: same model, rescaled 1.1 1st variation + white texture, 1.2 2nd variation and 1.3. Before choosing that model I've replaced and tested about 12 models using different textures; they all look nice in editor but when you need to populate the map with them it can get ugly. My best model had animations but I didnt selected it because it requires more resources from PC and will get laggy on slow computers.

Creating the models is something that I cant do and I dont need to do it. No one is creating models. There are some modelers on the net that are editing the current existing models: adding them weapons, changing textures, rescaling, removing parts, etc, do you know why? because the internet is full with models already created by big companies, as Blizzard, and is more easy to convert them for W3 then to recreate them from scratch. I've noticed this things recently. Arthas, for example, our Omni, you will find a HD version in HotS, another one in the Starcraft 2 mod, another 2-3 in WoW and tons of variations of this ones made by amateurs.

Try to make your own version. You will find on the internet all that you need: tutorials, tools, models, textures. Replace just 1 model and the terrain and then you can come here to act as a jealous child and I promise I wont trash you every time when you speak without knowing about what you speak. I should get "gj" only if I would recreate the game from scratch, alone? Just read the W3 credits to see how many guys (pro in their domain) created this old loveable game.

I think is because of the W3 editor. I've made scrshots in editor and the light was not fix (for the new ones) and I've used "v" (game settings view) when I scrnshoted the old models. But, indeed, there are a few models that needs more light and colour. After I will finish replacing all the models I will place them all in a row to analyze how they match with each other (colours, light and scale) and will be fixed. Also, I will need to make them match their environment or to replace them; cant have bright terrain, brighter trees, darker models, etc, they all need to fit.

You are right. I've just noticed. There are 2 eredar models: one used for Archimonde (shadow demon) and the other for Kil'Jaeden (Lycan). It seems that I used the 1st model with red texture for Lycan, instead the Kil'Jaden model. Tnx Lexy!

I've tried to make a video using Bandicam and Debut Video Capture but I get a grey overlay when I'm recording. Modified the settings but still the same. Some slight changes will be done (some already made) to the map too. It will work on battlenet, ladder games (will sync with the others). Christmas tree will be removed, items will get some real models (as branch and gem, for example) or, at least, will have a HD treasure chest. Santa's hats (given at killing spree) will be replaced with a cool effect. Blight texture from the map will be removed so the new HD blight can take its place from the game's archive. Lancer, Enigma and Tiny replaced (all 3 are map imported, cant change them from the game). The minimap too; for now is the one from DotA 2 but I will make other (it can be easily done with a pic editor and some renders). All the modifications done to the map will focus on visuals only, mechanics (functions, variables, constants) will not be touched so the map can sync with the other players even if their map isnt modified. I think I will also change the map's loading screen, is low quality and I want also to add our forum adress on it. All that Dracol1ch wrote on it will remain there since it's his credit but I think is fair to add our adress too since we are using his map on our server; RGC have their own loading screen. If someone will have a problem woth it then I will add the adress from the game by replacing the "Loading" text (from the loading bar) with it.


I've tested the mod playing with bots (-ardm) and 1 game online, all works fine, it just needs to be completed; ofc, more tests will be done before making it avaiable for download. For now will be just the archives replacements but in the future I'm hoping to make it as a standalone game, using the W3 engine and only the files needed for DotA (with some help). Feel free to post here, or to PM me, your suggestions.

I'm not sure yet. I want to replace and fix all heroes + test them all. I've just noticed, last night, that some heroes needs the colision size fixed. I thought it was a game constant but, in fact, is a model variable. The problem appears at the models that got resized. Pit is losing his tail in the ground, Leoric's sword doesnt touch the target when he attack, and ofc this looks bad. I think I will make it avaiable for download but just for testing and feedback, if someone will help.

I didnt forgot about this. I was busy lately and didn't worked to much on it. For now I am working on testing and on creating a main menu screen. Still have some models to replace. If someone is willing to test it I can compile it tomorrow and give the Dlink. Suggestions will be nice but important is to find and report bugs. Also, the map will need some testing too. For it you dont need to download the entire mod, just the map edited by me. It will be tested with at least 2 users in non-ladder games (it may desync).
IMPORTANT: I'm not updating the map, I only replace some files for a better and complete visual makeover. (example: some hero models that are map imported and cannot be replaced from the game's archive [tiny, lancer, enigma], blight texture, loading screen, items' models, Sentinel's tree, santa's hat, etc ).

Tested it on ladder at my own risk. All worked fine but I could only see 10 heroes how performs with the new models). Also, it is easy to adapt to the new visuals because most of the models are very similar with the old ones.

Modified CM's attack missile. It has a nice glassy sound, looks like a crystal and makes a seal (circle with symbol) on impact.

I know. I was referring that I cannot replace them from the game's archives and that's why I need to make some modifications to the map too. Editing the map's scripts to change the models filepaths may cause desync so I will replace the models from the map so I can let the scripts untouched.

I was thinking to make one with interactive menu from where players can choose models, skins, main menu themes, etc that can be injected in the game's archives with some simple left-click steps.

Also why are you even making this, it's not like you're the warcraft 3 developer and you're thinking about making some changes for the game.

My opinion about this is, graphics are the most irrelevant part of a game, the gameplay is the most important part of a game, if you want a game to be more interesting you should make the gameplay more interesting.

original bnet has around 40k people, iccup has around 10-11k, rgc around 5-6k, eurobattle.net ~1k

It will never be used oficially. I will upload it in my google drive and give the link to the ones that wanna try it. This was the idea from the beginning. Anyway, it cant be implemented somehow since we are talking about the game. The only thing that can be implemented here is the map but that one will be slighty modified and there is no need to implement it. Who wants a complete visual makeover can just replace the current map with the one modified by me, it will work. Tnx for support, 1question; I'm rlly doing my best.  :)

I've uploaded unfinished version of the DotA HD mod mostly for feedback (bug reporting and suggestions).
Some users already downloaded it. If you wish to test it do not focus on the models sizes. Some are to small, others to big. After I will finish replacing all the models I will rescale them properly.
I repeat: unfinished, for testing.

To avoid problems and to help me keeping count of how many users want to use it, please, send me PM and I will give you Dlinks.

The mod has a total of 1.4 GB splited in 5 archive parts. Instructions will be given via PM (is easy).

Soon, the server will update Warcraft 3 (to 1.27b patch) and it seems that the mod compiled by me will not work on it. The unfinished version is uploaded for some time now and will work with 1.27a patch but I dont need testing for it anymore because I had to start remaking it. If you wish to try it or if you want to try to finish it and adapt it to the new patch just let me know and I will give you the download links. Ty Salih and sorry for wasting your time.

I've remade it and, for now, is uploaded with only hero models replacements. It seems that an overall update (environment, spell effects, buildings, etc) can cause lag on slow computers. This current version works fine on any computer that can support Warcraft 3. It was created on the 1.27b patch but it should work on 1.27a as well. Let me know if you have problems using it with the current patch and I will upload a version for 1.27a too.

The mod is archived in 3 parts (1x300 MB, 1x300MB, 1x189MB). It contains the 2 main archives/mpq of the game: war3.mpq & war3x.mpq

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Backup your war3.mpq & war3x.mpq files (Warcraft III directory)
2. Copy-paste the ones from me (after you extract them) in the Warcraft III directory.
You can switch back by replacing those 2 files with the originals (the ones that you backed-up).

Please, send me PM if you wish to download it so I can know for how many users I will waste my time finishing the mod. I will give the links via PM. If there will be many users interested then I will ask permission from administration to paste the Download links here.

I'm not sure if my post is off topic. But is it possible to have the graphics scale correctly when changing the game video resolution from say 1024x768 (square) to 1280x720 (wide)?

All i'm looking for is to make use of my widescreen monitor while still being able to see the game graphics scale correctly in the available pixels (instead of appearing squishy).

I dont have a clue how to do that, sorry. I had an app that was allowing me to customize the game's resolution; maybe that can solve your problem. I will try to find it and send you a link to it.

Damn, it feels good to see you making a fool of yourself. If you go back with 1 page you will find download links to 2 different mods for 2 different w3 patches. "Unfinished" means that not all the heroes got replaced. First version has much more models replaced than the 2nd one but has some bugs left (but playable); anyway, the current dota map has more bugs than my amateurish w3 mod. The 2nd version is focused only on heroes because slow PCs will get spikes using the mod with all those HD changes. Go search them on google to see if they were stolen and not compiled by me.

The irony is that I actually did all I said I will do for this community except 1 thing: getting out the trash. Seems that some trash is still lying around here.
