Strategy / Tidehunter - Leviathan
« on: June 04, 2010, 19:20 »
As discussed in this topic, I think guides by the players can be created.
So I will start posting topics like this one. Every week I will post a new topic with a new hero. Every member can suggest item build, skill build, gameplay... (and other). I will edit the first post with the best suggestions.
The next hero will be Leviathan.

Hero introduction
A massive sea monster of incredible strength and toughness, Leviathan is a real tank. Using his Gush skill, he can slow and damage a single target while reducing their armor, allow the Tidehunter and his allies to pummel the target to a pulp. To aid his close combat skills, the Leviathan has a powerful Anchor Smash passive skill, which gives him a chance to unleash a devastating area of effect spin with every attack. A target of Gush who is hit by an Anchor Smash or two is in deep trouble. To protect himself while chasing down and smashing enemies, Leviathan has a second passive: Kraken Shell. This ability reduces all damage from physical attacks by a set number, allowing the Leviathan to wade into combat without fear, ignoring the blows of lesser foes. Kraken Shell also occasionally dispels negative spell effects from Leviathan, making him even more difficult to stop. By far the most feared ability of the Tidehunter is Ravage. This mighty ability allows the Tidehunter to cause immense damage and stun all enemies in a large area around him. This ability is most effective in large team battles, where it is a simple matter to hit the entire enemy team at once with its spikes, setting up the Tidehunter and his allies for an easy victory.
Background Story
Greatest of the sea giants, Leviathan was sealed away in the aftermath of the war between the Old Gods and the Titans in ancient times. Now released by the Lich King to aid in his crusade against the Sentinel, he cleaves through waves of enemies with his mighty anchor, breaking enemy sieges before they even begin. As terrible a foe on land as he is in water, those who stand before the Tidehunter are swept away in a sea of spikes, eviscerated as he closes in to pulverize those left to receive his wrath.

Hero introduction
The Nerubian Assassin starts off by wearing his opponents down early on, Burning their Mana for damage, keeping them fairly useless and vulnerable. With a Vendetta against living things, he can become invisible, travel faster, and deal great damage to the next thing he hits. Following up with his powerful line stunning impale and then Mana Burn is a combo most will instantly fall victim to--hard to see it coming and difficult to escape. While he is known for his deadly offensive, this Assassin also has a Spiked Carapace to help defend against physical attackers, and reflect melee damage directly.
Background Story
Anub'arak was once the greatest champion of the Nerubians, but fell in the Second War of the Spider. He was resurrected by the Lich King Ner'zhul, who promised him eternal undeath in exchange for his unswerving loyalty. His layers of spiked armor are nearly impregnable, causing severe damage to attackers. When threatened, he shoots these spikes through enemies, maiming and disorienting them. He channels his dark powers into a bolt of disarming negative energy, and those who witness him blending into the shadows of the frozen tundra have never lived to tell the tale.

Bottle solves your mana problems.
Magic Wand costs nothing and can save you.
Phase Boots are great when playing.
Dagon works nice even in late game (you need it upgraded to level 5).
Eul's Scepter of Divinity is a situational item. Buy it if your team needs a support hero.
Necronomicon gives you sight range (1500 / 1500, depending on it's level), movement speed aura, mana burning skills and true sight (level 3 Necronomicon Warrior).
Diffusal Blade - less mana for your enemy. Purge can help you, too.
Orchid Malevolence gives you damage, attack speed, mana regeneration and intelligence. Do you need something else?
Yasha - a late game item, but only if there is an other support hero in your team, else buy Guinsoo's Scythe of Vyse or Shiva's Guard.
Manta Style - if you have Yasha, upgrading this would be a good idea.
Shiva's Guard - a late game item.
Guinsoo's Scythe of Vyse is for the real intelligence heroes, but can prove useful, if you are the only one the buy it.

Gameplay (5 vs 5)
From level 1 to level 5
Starting with Bottle. If your team has a courier, you can get Magic Wand.
The game has just started, you need gold and to level up fast.
From level 6 to level 10
You have a stun, you have a disable, you are invisible! Go roaming. Your allies need your help.
At level 10 you should have atleast Eul's Scepter of Divinity, Necronomicon or Dagon.
From level 11 to level 15
Fun time! Kill your enemies. Do not go alone versus several heroes. You should be sure to attack in 1 versus 1. Vendetta will help you.
From level 16 to level 25
You are ready to finish the game (but not alone, you need a team).
If you are not ready to end, continue the search for victims.

Hero introduction
The Slayer is one of the deadlier offensive spellcasters, capable of killing fragile heroes with one combo of her spells. Her two main offensive spells provide a powerful area of effect combo. Dragon Slave fires a quick fiery projectile which deals good damage and has pretty high range. Light Strike Array is Lina's stun spell. Due to her relatively slow cast time it can be difficult to hit moving enemies with this spell, however. Many Lina players cast Light Strike Array right after an ally uses another stun, making the spell much easier to hit and prolonging the total disable time. To support her offensive gameplay style, Lina has a passive skill called Fiery Soul. Every time she casts any of her other spells, Lina gains a temporary movement and attack speed bost, allowing her to chase down and kill fleeing enemies. Lina also has the most damaging single-target spell in the game: Laguna Blade. This devastating blast of energy is one of the best ways to finish off injured enemies. Often heroes who thought they were safe are blasted into oblivion by a single Laguna Blade.
Background Story
A renowned pyromancer roaming the lands, Lina Inverse originally joined the Sentinel for monetary purposes. However, weeks turned into months, and fighting alongside the many holy warriors with fearless souls inspired her with the responsibility of protecting the sanctity of the World Tree. With her devastating abilities to summon vaporizing flames, she wreaks havoc among the enemy ranks. In dire situations, she would imbue herself with an ultimate fervor, or even call forth a massive beam of lightning which is said to instantly slay any single foe. A most feared enemy of the Scourge, a most unswerving defender of the Sentinel.

The best item to start with Lina is Bottle.
You don't need much items, that is why buying an Animal Courier is a good idea. It can also help your team. If your team has a courier already, then upgrading it to a Flying Courier is an option.
Null Talisman(s) will help you early game, but you should start building your core items from early.
Observer Wards greatly improves your ganking power.
Don't forget to buy boots. Lina can use any pair of boots:
Phase Boots - your best choice. Doesn't cost much, gives you movespeed and you have Phase.
Power Treads (Intelligence) - provides mana and attack speed.
Boots of Travel - buy this if you have enough gold to spare.
Eul's Scepter of Divinity provides movement speed and mana regeneration, that can prove useful.
Force Staff is a good item, but is more offensive and Lina has low HP.
Dagon works nice with Laguna Blade and can be upgraded, but in late game can be useless.
Necronomicon provides movement speed and true sight. Works nice with invisible units and heroes with great move speed.
Aghanim's Scepter is maybe the best item for Lina, but requires a great amount of gold.
Shiva's Guard is a perfect item. Proves useful for you and for your team.

Gameplay (5 vs 5)
From level 1 to level 5
You should choose the middle lane.
Aquiring runes is what you should do. They will give you a great advantage of the game (for a short amount of time).
But your main goal is to gather gold and experience.
From level 6 to level 10
Time for roaming!
Assist your team in battle. Help them push. Destroy some towers.
From level 11 to level5
Ganking time!
You need wards and better survivability.
Wards should be in your enemy forest.
From level 16 to level 25
If your team is owning, you should end as soon as posible.
Else, farming is a good choice.

Hero introduction
The Chaos Knight has one of the highest damage potentials among strength heroes. He is capable of dealing out a lot of punishment with his powerful critical hits and illusions. In addition, he offers good mobility and a strong stun. Chaos Bolt, as indicated by its name, is a strong but random ability. It deals a random amount of damage over a set range, and stuns the target for a variable length of time based on the level of the skill. It can either be very effective or mediocre, depending on the Chaos Knight's luck. Similarly, his critical strike has a fairly low chance of activating, but the damage payoff is the highest of any non-ultimate critical hit. The Chaos Knight is quite mobile for a strength hero. With Blink Strike he can instantly teleport to an enemy unit, dealing extra damage. Blink Strike can also be used to teleport to allied units. Finally, the Chaos Knight's can use his Phantasm skill, which summons several illusions of the caster. Each illusion deals the full damage of the Chaos Knight. The amount of pain these images can dish out is among the highest physical damage potentials in the game, especially with Critical Strike. If surrounded by these phantasms, just hope Nessaj's luck doesn't hold.
Background Story
A disciple of Mithras, the God of Chaos, Nessaj has utilized the powers bestowed upon him to further the cause of Chaos and Evil. He stands opposed with all his might against the powers of Order and Good. He uses his ability to call upon chaotic energy to damage and stun an enemy for a random length of time in conjunction with his power to rip holes in space to instantly strike down all that stand against him. His powers culminate into the terrifying Phantasm, creating avatars of himself who do full damage to all those who oppose him, confusing the battlefield and wreaking havoc amongst the forces of Good.

Don't forget to buy boots while you are building the above item(s) - Power Treads (Strenght).
You can always buy Yasha if your enemy is running away. Later you can improve it to Manta Style.
If something goes wrong, Armlet of Mordiggian can help you.
Next you need a nice orb:
Diffusal Blade - Buy this if you are a facing an intelligence team. Also, this works nice with your illusions and against them (and all summons).
Stygian Desolator - Buy this if you are facing a team of tanks.
Helm of the Dominator (later Satanic) or Mask of Madness - Buy this only of the enemy has many carries and/or nukers.
Sange and Yasha - A nice orb if you already have Yasha.
After you have an orb, a good item is Assault Cuirass.
Maybe Cranium Basher if you have a bad time killing and good time farming.
And finally, a few Divine Rapiers don't hurt.

Hero introduction
Magina wasn't nicknamed the Anti-Mage for no reason. His passive Mana Break attack allows him to deal extra damage and cripple a caster's mana supply. With a great understanding of the spiritual realm, he becomes more resilient against magical attacks using his Spell Shield, along with the ability to Blink across short distances for superb maneuverability. Seeking out weary casters, he uses Mana Void to inflict immense damage for high amounts of missing mana. Although he will be at a natural disadvantage to casters early on, as his powers grow, there is none better suited for bringing the greatest of spell casters down to their knees.
Background Story
Twin sons to the great Prophet, Terrorblade and Magina were blessed with divine powers: Terrorblade granted with an unnatural affinity with life forces; Magina gifted with energy manipulation. Magina's eventual overexposure to the magics gradually augmented his elemental resistances and bestowed him the unique ability to move faster than light itself. Now, broken by Terrorblade's fall to the dark side, Magina answers the Sentinel's call in a desperate bid to redeem his brother. Every bitter strike turns the Scourge's evil essences upon themselves, culminating in a finale that forces his enemy to awaken to the void within and spontaneously implode.

Feedback / Suggestion
« on: February 16, 2010, 18:03 »
This is a suggestion about game creation, game lobby, and game start.

When a user creates a game, a private game will be hosted.
When the game creator enters the game, he can rehost the game as a public.
When the game is rehosted as public:
  • it can not be rehosted as a private;
  • !swap, !hold, !close and !open commands are disabled;
  • when a player joins, he can't change his slot position;
  • Optional: before a game is rehosted as public, the game owner must specify a game mode (the bot will set the mode using HCL);
  • Optional: before a game is rehosted as public, the game owner must specify the number of players in each team (the bot will close all others);
  • Optional: before a game is rehosted as public, the game owner must specify the skills of players (bot will allow only players with a certain score);
  • Optional: when the game owner uses .pub commands, the bot will rehost the game with a name: DotA XvsX -MODE SKILL (XvsX is the players in each team; -MODE is the game mode; SKILL is the skill of allowed players).

This will not change private games.
The main suggestion is everything without Optional.
I suggest this because, most of the game owners use !swap to imbalance the game.
The game is hosts at first as private, because of posible friends.
The optional mode adjustment is because as ban/unban moderator, I see that some game owners change the game mode (by mistake or in purpose).
The optional players in each team is to prevent games starting 4v5 or other imbalanced situation.
The optional skill adjustment is to control noobs from joining pro games (and vise-versa).
The optional game name is only for better information about the game.

DotA Discussion / New version 6.65
« on: December 27, 2009, 15:59 »
I don't know why this was not posted.
After DotA v6.65 there should be a discussion about the changes.
I will leave the new heroes to you.

Isn't N'aix now more imba? (Movement speed increased from 300 to 315).

Feedback / [idea/bug][site]Subpages are awful
« on: December 14, 2009, 14:25 »
The site tabs are "bugged".
It is not a bug, it is a page in a page. And because the browsers use the main link of the page (not the subpage) for everything (refreshing a page, going back to previous page...), I sugest using the main links to the subpages.
Home - http://playdota.eu/;
Forum - http://playdota.eu/forum/;
Stats - http://stats.playdota.eu/.

If you agree and change it, you must add a link to the home page(http://playdota.eu/) to all pages, ofc.

Feedback / [question][server]How many Mbps is it?
« on: December 13, 2009, 21:09 »
The people who were with the bot before know, that several donators gave money for PlayDotA.eu's future existing, and some hardware changes.
1 of the changes was moving from a 100Mbps to a 1Gbps Linux bot. But in the game lobby motd, it is still 100Mbps.
Did you change it?

Although this question is only to the Administrators, I think that everyone is interested in the answer.
