Suggestion Board / Re: Make ban mode harsher
« on: February 20, 2011, 14:26 »
What you are proposing would be fine for any bot with a more elitist pool of players. However PD.eu intends to be open to casual players as well, that's imo the whole beauty of this bot. Anyone can play, it's easy to use and it's free. Putting a safelist in effect would probably make our casual players, who make up a large part of our userbase, play somewhere else rather than bother with all the trouble of vouching.

I agree that there should be more specific mention of -test in the rules.

I'm a decent guy and shit can happen for me but is happen once i recive a warn then i will pay atention to dont happen again i play dota or i go  to feed my cat or shop cos mom turn off my pc if not..? cmon...

Theres always a chance that shit happens twice. Say you have to afk because something important's going on, but hey you happen to have that warn from 3 months ago. And wham we have a permban. Im sorry but this is just a bad idea.

i give an ex. a guy who i reported him have few games anyway... and last 6 games have leaver, lost, lost, leaver, leaver, leaver... This idiot tell me dont deserved a perma ban?

If you report him properly he will get a permban for serial leaving. Its unfortunate but mods have neither the time nor the resources to check every offender's history in extreme detail following some vague banrequest. If you are clear in your request (specifically mention that this guy is serial leaving) and post multiple gamelinks, Id permban. We have the warn system to flag rulebreakers, but when a host uses !bl no warn gets added.

if they are fine players they dont brake rules(i don't), ppl who brake rule they aren't fine than...

What you're saying is basically that anyone who drives through red light sometimes is a hard criminal and should be imprisoned for life. We already punish hard offenders like spam, bug abuse and mh as harsh as possible (with permban). Multiple offenders same thing, they get a permban after 3 or 4 offenses.

why ppl make accounts? cos they wait to expire ban for old account, but if you make ban mode harser many ppl will start to care about his account and will not be anymore a plague.

Actually I think it would have a reversed effect. Say I got permbanned for muting someone without reason. Id be like "wtf sod this" and create NEGERTIVS2, because just how retarded is it to get permbanned for something so small?

When on the other hand you ban someone for 3 days he's much more likely to sit out his ban and try and behave next time.

you realy are a optimist guy if you think it will be better... and system can corect them.

I prefer a positive approach to rulebreakers. It's a difference in ideology really. But I think harsh bans lead to more multiaccounting and not less. It will stimulate a "fuck it" attitude when you get hard ban for something small and make people more likely to just create another account.

Common mistake, but there are no "individual" hunters in DotA. Magina's supposed to blink in when a teambattle has started and quickly kill casters before they get a chance to wreak havoc with their spells, not "solo hunt". You know what happens when magina tries to make a kill on his own against a decent team? Well first of all unless it's superduper lategame it will take him loads of time to take someone down, having no disable. Second of all, tp's will be used and he will be counterganked, chainstunned and raped faster than you can say "this aint -em bro". Ofcourse all of this against a decent team. If youre playing a horrible horrible -em pub, then sure go for it.

venomancer is a roamer. This means he roams over the map looking to set up ganks. He can solokill but that is usually not how ganking is done. He roams to gain mapcontrol and a level advantage for his teammates and his carry (venomancer is a very poor carry btw). Viper can solokill in PUBS but is easily counterganked and raped against semi-decent opponents because he is made of paper.

Just a couple of examples. No hero is meant to play "solo". Not even clinkz and certainly not slark. Weaver is just completely useless all around ;D.

Please check out some of these excellent guides:

These guides are great and will increase your understanding of how DotA works. Teamplay is the foundation. Team is an axioma.

Sorry for hijacking your topic but I think this discussion is much more interesting and important than MHers xD

I dont agree on harsher bans. After all the PD.eu justice system is not designed to keep every little rulebreaker out of the community for good, but rather to encourage them to learn and change their ways. Even with decent people it can happen every now and then that they leave or afk. Shit happens, do these people deserve long bans for that? I dont think so.

The real assholes - eg test mode abusers, hard spammers, serial leavers and MHers - already get long or permanent bans. Im not going to permban someone because he muted wrongly for the second time or something, it's way too harsh and even if it might be a good deterrent, permbans for basically nothing will happen. These people I imagine will be extremely angry and will not be keen to accept our rules and follow them in the future, but rather more inclined to say "fuck it" and go all out with their rulebreaking. Or leave the PD community, which will cost us many otherwise fine players who sometimes make mistakes (that's what our ban system is for, to correct them not expel them!).

Multiple accounts are a plague yes, but right now there is no reliable solution for that. IP banning might seem like a good idea, but isnt because of dynamic ips. Banning a whole IP range for a MHer means that half the MHer's city probably cant play on our bot again. Using really harsh bans will lead to us losing otherwise perfectly fine players and creating more rulebreakers instead of less.

Suggestion Board / Re: new ban rule suggestion
« on: February 19, 2011, 12:15 »
Generally we only use "already banned" when it's about the same case. So f.e. when a host gets reported for leaving in the same game twice, and he was already banned for it. Or when someone gets reported for leaving but he was already banned by the host.

When I handle a report about someone who's already banned I usually extend the ban. eg xxx is banned for leaving, 6 days left, and then afk's in a game: 5 days added to his ban for afk, bringing the total to 11 days.

stygian: that case is completely unrelated to this topic.

Yes. PD is not aimed at removing rulebreakers from the community but rather at persuading them to change their ways and learn. So yes, I gave him a chance. Not that weird imo. You on the other hand went afk for the reason "omg team nubb loll" which is the most horrible reason you can possibly have. If you'd just sent me a nice pm instead of acting like a kid I might have been persuaded to unban you. As it is now however I can not.

Have a good weekend, Im out soon.

Oh lol, banned this 12 year old because there was a banrequest with proof. Been getting the most retarded pm's ever since, I even explained nicely why he was banned and that if he disagreed he should contact the head mod.

24hoursx5days= how many spits i cant calculate ^^

just a tiny example.

Ill just leave him to enjoy his fail -.-

That part about "stacking teams" is crap. DotA is by its very nature a team game, not like UnrealTournament where you can enter any server and just start shooting people. It's meant to be played with a team. If you want to play a "real" pub game, just host games yourself, kick any slotters and use !sp command.

Maphackers will be maphackers. Take any random game scene and it will be plagued by certain hacks. Providing good antihack protection is a bit of a futile race with the hack builders, since they will always be at least one step ahead, they can simply look at existing AH measures and manouvre around them, whereas AH developers will always need to catch up, putting them one step behind.

I dont know if theres any good AH applications out there for W3/DotA speficially or whether they can be implemented into the PD bots. Might be worth a look, but Im too much of a noob W3-enginewise to know ;D.

True that, one pubbie MH'er will be no match for a coordinated team that has map control. Hence the "stacking teams" part being crap. DotA is a team game, playing it with your friends/clanmates is an essential part of the fun, at least for me. "True pub games" make me sick even thinking about them xD

Dude you're trying to re-invent the wheel  ;D

Try some of these excellent guides on (competitive) hero picking, yes they are not for pubs, but read them and you will understand a great deal about picking heros:

That may be, however, backdooring with heroes that can TP cross map is too lame imo. Specially with wisp as its undefendable.

koop linkens! Universal solution!  ;D

It's kind of like a failsafe that allows mods to ban people who ruin the game, screw their teammates, act badly in certain ways without litterally breaking any of the clear written rules. Mostly up to common sense.

Yes I banned that tiny.
