I don't think this is from when you got disconnected from a game. Or is it?

Technical support / "Unrecoverably dropped" bug hunt!
« on: August 02, 2014, 11:50 »
We still do not know the source of this random bug when a player drops instantly from a game usually while another one is lagging. Other players see this as "PlayerX was unrecoverably dropped from GProxy!"

I have added an additional error code to gproxy output when it happens.

When you lose connection go check your gproxy output for a line like this:
Quote
[GPROXY] local player disconnected with error: SOMEERROR

And report SOMEERROR in this topic. This might help us figure out where the problem is.

Thanks

General Discussions / Re: This is map hack server

In some countries you can't even have a credit card until you are 18. And even if you can, most people do not have it because you must pay a yearly fee for it. You need MC/Visa in order to be able to use Paypal. Even if we only charged 1 cent this would still create a big barrier for underage players and people who don't have it.

This would also mean we now have to store payments and possibly CC info on our server. I really don't want to be responsible for such data in case we get hacked (and it happened in the past). There are probably some legal stuff you have to deal with if you even want to have such info. I really don't want to deal with things like this. We are just a bunch of regular people, not a company.

I hope you see my concerns and why that is a stupid idea.

Most of you have no idea how things work (and you shouldn't) so it is hard to read all this nonsense for me.

Here are a few facts to keep things straight:
1. We don't ban IP because it's useless. We ban computers with various methods.

2. We detect 90% of known hacks. The only reason we can't detect all of them or have a perfect solution is simply because we lack the expertise to code such a thing. Preventing hacks to mess with a running process is a very tricky business which is theoretically impossible. If we found a l33t coder to help with that it would be awesome. Anti-cheat systems is not something every script kiddie can do..

3. Disabling registration or paying for an account is just a silly idea. If you want to truly isolate yourself from public EM games you should join a private league. There is much less mh in private leagues because you won't be able to come back once you get caught.

You were perma banned in the past already, you got locked today just because old bans were imported from the old system.

DotA Discussion / Re: why is eurobattle so dead
« on: January 02, 2013, 14:38 »
I think Dota is the thing that kept W3 alive, not killed it.
Look what happened to starcraft 1.
Find me players who still play Sc1 online every day.
Exactly.
It was keeping the numbers and now it's taking them.

You don't just stop playing a game that you played for the past several years. Some move on to newer games but some just like to stick with the old games, either because their PC is crappy or because they simply enjoy to play it from time to time.

Dota 2 and other moba derivatives mainly attracted hardcore Dota players and some more casual ones. So inevitably there is a few tens % of players less that will still play D1. It's natural and expected. Is it going to kill w3? Not at all. Some people still like D1 and as long as IceFrog keeps releasing new material there is still future for D1 and it's player base.

Also, W3 as a game can actually benefit from this. Some people consider Dota being the cancer that killed W3, so perhaps when Dota becomes less relevant to W3 community we can shift back to good old days where PG and CG meant something. Less retards who only jumped the wagon for dota and more people who actually care for W3 as a whole.

If you have any criticism about official xpam gproxy feel free to drop me a private message or add me on skype and we can chit chat about it. We know our gproxy is not even near perfect but we can only do as much as we can with the amount of people and time in our hands.

If you feel like you can contribute to some parts of our gproxy and make it better feel free to share some of your code with us. There are still a lot of problems to solve and things to improve so every help is welcome.

Technical support / Re: disconnects
« on: November 05, 2012, 00:09 »
This problem will be fixed with next version of gproxy (unfortunatelly we didn't have time to put it in this one). GProxy will periodically send a bnet command and solve this problem.

Unfortunatelly there is no other way to fix the problem at the moment except manually typing the bnet commands. It has to something with routers which for some reason don't like to keep the TCP connection alive.
