DotA Discussion / Re: Dota1 VS Dota2
« on: January 31, 2013, 20:05 »
It's obvious that Dota2 is better.

I have played DotA for years (since 6.09 I think), and I'm playing Dota2 for 1 year now. You need some time to get used to Dota2 looks, as everything is a lot different, in terms of cosmetics. I was struggling to see who I'm up against, and what spell they're using, but after 20 days of play you get used to it, AND you will realise, it's THE EXACT SAME GAME, with no limitations (W3 engine).

Dota 2 saves you time on every small thing, item shopping, courier delivery with full items, and much more. All that small time wasting crap that exists in DotA and that you got used to, is gone in Dota 2.

Yes, there are bugs in Dota 2, of course, it's still in beta, but nothing worth mentioning really, 99% of them are fixed and the problems are mainly in cosmetics.

It's not true that there are more noobs in Dota 2, it's simply not, because it is in closed beta, not everyone can obtain a key. There are morons here and there, sure. Besides, matchmaking will put you in your level pool after only a few games. I have around 1000 games in D2, playing in very high skill pool, and just out of curiosity made a new account and out of 15 games - 10 are in very high pool.

Feedback / game leaving/staying ratio and autobanning
« on: April 08, 2010, 21:30 »
I've been playing for some time on northrend, /j clan graz, in that channel the games are being auto hosted and they have similar system like we have here, playdota.eu.
I don't mean to advertise their server, but http://stats.ghostgraz.com/ just to point out how these servers look alike.
Now, I wasn't lame, went to their forum and read a few things. One rule i was certainly delighted with.

- Player needs to be above 80% stay-until-the-end. If he doesn't he gets an autoban by the bot.
Now, I really don't know after how many games this rule applies, because if you lose the connection at your second game it's 50%.

The truth is, many players here plug and shit, when they don't, they lose their connection sometimes, so we can try with 60 % ratio and see how it works out. When I take a look at myself, I do lose the connetion sometimes, like once in 50 games, so my stay ratio would be 98%. This way we would have less plug reports, therefore less work for the admin team. If a player can't get his percentage above 60% or 70%, that means he is loosing his connection every third or second game, then the question is, should a game ruiner like that be allowed to play? Come on, no one looses the connection, for real, that often.

Cheers.

I'm not sure if I understood you well enough, you're suggesting for the bot to be able to count the scores of each teams and decide whether the game is balanced or not. So, for an example, the Sentinel team has a total of 20, while the Scourge has 10, now bot should automatically shuffle the players to make, if not exactly then nearly 15-15. If that is what you meant, I like this idea a lot!

It's hard for a bot to decide if you're noob or pro, because, basically, there are EM modes, noob games, pro games, and if you have a total of 90 games played, 30 of each category, we have a total mess.
Therefore, splitting into "noob" and "pro" categories is almost an impossible mission. Maybe, those guys who entered games that contain word "pro", or "expert", or "godlike", shouldn't be able to enter games named "noobs" or "newbies", as a part of the game name. Now, if a "noob" wants to enter "pro" game, meaning, if he feels like he has made some progress and is now ready for pro games, his stats should be erased and, therefore, he should be able to enter any game he wants that would be decisive to what type of games are going to be played on that account.

However, first thing's first, I think we should change the way stats work before we can do anything else, cause we can't add suggestions related to the stats system that we haven't seen yet and have no certain info about it...

Feedback / Re: Suggestion for !mute change
« on: March 12, 2010, 21:50 »
"Vote mute" would be helpful too. There are hosts that mute players for no good reason and the players stay muted for the rest of the game.
Apart from giving a command !mute lasting interval it would be very useful if it works on vote too. However, since flaming can happen in allied chat only, two or three votes should be enough for muting to take place.

DotA Discussion / Re: Pro Players Play Ap
« on: February 09, 2010, 14:29 »
today on ar mode our team got ezalor , enchantress , enigma , pugna and dazzle while enemies had

MAGINA <------- all fucking int heros pwned by him k ?  , sand king , akasha , tauren chieftain and  slark so  which team had more chanses to win that game ?  thats why only noobs play ar sd and crapy modes like that

cm/cd/rd/ap  for skilled players nothing else
Pugna = anti Magina! Buy Ghost Scepter and max Decrepify ftw ^^
oh rly ? after 2-3 decripfys which u can evade with ur bkb and blink u simply 1 hit him with  mana void

leaving magina out of the equation.
what about tc+sk+akasha combo. tc stun sk dagger in and ulti while tc ulti gets rdy then akasha ulti once tc ulti hits them. 3 ultis hit at once, sk or akasha gets rampage.
what about slark stealing the few str and hp points those poor int players have, sure get dust. and while u try to atk that fast moving tiny object dont forget to hex and stun those other 4 players who 2 of them have blink and aoe.

There are at least 10 different ways to start a fight, from that point of view look at the possibilities and combos. It's like arguing which are stronger, black or white figures on the chess table.

Now, I don't see that -ap mode is for noobs. The truth is, most pub games have noobs in it and the game mode will not make it any different. I don't pay attention too much to game modes, -rd / -ap / -sd , whatever. I play random many times in ap, but also joining ap games to practise some hero, or purely to have fun with nice arrows/hooks/torrents, whatever turns you on. :D

People play whatever they want to play, period.

Feedback / Re: Why is backdoor illegal?
« on: February 01, 2010, 13:29 »
Interesting topic, however, I think that first we'll need a proper definition about backdooring. I first thought backdooring is attacking any tower without creep support.
However, its not any tower, it appears to be only base towers.

Now, once your creeps are in base you are allowed to attack any tower and stay there as long as you want. So, lets say, middle tower, rax and towers guarding the throne are destroyed (meaning that there is upper lane and bottom lane tower standing with barracks) . Bone enters enemy base with creeps and starts destroying buildings, opposing team heroes come back to defend and clean out all creeps, but bone however stays there in windwalk, now that he has lots of space to hide, is he allowed to attack again (cause he didn't leave enemy base, he was there all the time)? Late game bone with orchid has all the mana he needs to consume creeps and heal himself, so if he can hide, which in this situation he can, then there is no need to go back...
So, the enemy heroes have to buy a gem or plant like 5-6 wards all around the base just to check whether clinkz is still there so they can leave the base or something?
Honestly in these situations I find myself with 3k gold without having enough time to go to fountain and complete an item, not to mention wards and stuff...

Are there any official rules (written by developers) about backdooring on dota allstars? If there are, are these rules of backdooring the same as we (playdota.eu players and admins) consider them to be? If there are no officially written rules, maybe then there is no backdooring, yet on some tournaments there are specific situations when it's considered as backdooring and is forbidden (I've read somewhere that Furion teleport into enemy base and destroying towers is considered ONLY as backdooring).

It's a mess.

Offtopic / Re: Other Games
« on: January 30, 2010, 23:21 »
Has anyone played GTA SA online? I played it few years ago, there are really good roleplay servers now.
It's complicated for me to explain, in the game you can be a lawyer, governor (apply laws and stuff for the city), be a mafioso (smuggle drugs and weapons, fake car licenses, kidnap people, rob them, scam them, etc.), or be a trashman, taxi driver, ambulance, police, fbi... There are also companies, night clubs, car shops, gas station, houses and stuff, everything owned by someone...
The game is really awesome when you figure it out, but it requires some MAD english skills and really, really fast typing.

Few days ago found a server where you need to pass some tests in roleplaying (I spent like 2 hours on them) before getting permission to play, so there are really lots of good roleplayers.

Long time ago I played on another server, really got into it, had a gang, police arrested me cause I made a setup with crew to assassinate a competitor in gun dealing, they interrogated me, but didn't have any evidence so they let me go :)

If anyone is interested to give it a try, let me know. :)

General Discussions / Re: What if pro joins noob game... ban?
« on: January 30, 2010, 19:35 »
Well, yea... That's what I meant, everyone would be allowed to host but he needs to know certain rules first (pass the test or something, I'm sure there wouldn't be more than 50 applications/day for hosting). That way it would be much better I think.

It's just a suggestion anyway, we all want playdota.eu to be even better than it is right now.

Cheers.

I think newbies should play noob games to learn hero spells, item making, fights, movement etc.. But for pro games something much, much, much more is needed and that is understanding of the game. Mentioned above are the very basics of DotA.

Not once has happened that some all-knowing noobish player makes 9-1 score who doesn't know when and where to push, when to defend, when to gank woods, goes shopping right after all the opposing heroes died in the fight, when to go for roshan, and so on. Instead just hunting kills all over the map and feeling pro about his stats.

I don't know anything about coding (looking at the discussion in posts above), there can be also "rules" about game names. For an example pro games must be named with "pro" or "expert" as the part of the game name, without things like "pr0", "eXpertZzZ" and stuff...

Now related to the statement above I think that not everyone should be allowed to host games using playdota.eu bot, instead, host should agree with the "rules of hosting" by passing the test or by agreeing to these rules that will educate them how  to keep games balanced and give them proper knowledge about commands. I have had times when host didn't know how to change sync limit. There were times when, in the early game, player starts lagging, and host changes sync and pwns him while he's unable to move. Games starting with players pinged above 150 and so on. There are also times when game title is "pro" and the guy in opposing team of the host has !sd in 3 games average 3-12, we're screaming to have him kicked, instead without asking "ready?" or anything host starts the game. This is pure abusing and intentional game ruining! Let's change this.

I am killing with my long, booooring posts, but please, spare some time. Thank you.

Well if you look at it this way, that all players have to play a ruined game because of one guy, its not really democratic.

For any decision, in game, consensus is required, I think that is wrong.
