Need help with my new PC build
« on: December 13, 2011, 19:28 »
I'm planning to buy a new PC with this specs
CPU: Intel i7 2600k
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100
MB: ASUS Maximus IV GENE-Z/GEN3
RAM: 16gb(4x4gb) Kingston HyperX
PSU: Corsair 1200W

But I don't know which GPU to use and I'm trying to decide which one will be best.
GTX 570 Phantom edition
or
GTX 460 2gb SLI
or
Radeon HD 6970

about GPU it depends on how much money you get to spent
and about CPU RAM and MB try to research if MB enable speeding up communication between CPU and RAM, if no try to find which does that cause it increase your power about 25% of CPU and RAM itself ;)

I'm going to spend like $350 max on GPU

Well, I already have the specs i wrote up (everything except GPU). So i need to UPGRADE my old GTX 295 so i can max out the current games.

I decided which one i will buy and that is GTX 460 2gb SLI cuz i see great reviews over the internet (it's pretty much same like 5970 which is much more expensive especially when overclocked, not to mention the tesselation power that two gtx 460 got)

Note:
My i7 2600k is overclocked at 4.9ghz per core (4cores/8threads) so there is no need to upgrade the CPU

570 is waste of money.
Go for 560ti. It is like 570.
I am personally with palit 560ti sonic .
MSI model has some badass cooling and OC.
Recently was released 560ti from Zotac.

If I were buying a new pc atm, I would get this one.

Yea, Intel processors with k are made to be overclocked. But I dunno if you use 16 GB of RAM. If you don't need some much RAM I recommend you to get 8 GB but faster.

Also,

MoBo: Be sure it is designed for OCing.

Ram: You are building a sandy bridge machine so be sure that the RAM you get is at 1.5 V. Check G.SKill. They are awesome. 4GB is enough for a gaming machie. For word and server, 8 is enough. Get it at least at 1600MHz. 2000 is pointless (a lot of money for a bit of kick-off performance).

I own a computer store, but gtx 460 seems to be 20% slower that the 560 ti which is DOUBLE of 460's price (on my supplier) and also this is 2gb version which can be handy while playing on higher resolutions and AA's. Maybe my supplier will have more graphics cards in month or two. I used 16gb ram cuz it isn't very expensive and maybe will be needed in future (my opinion)

RAM is on of cheapest things in PC ffs and if you got some bugs for spent more why not to buy it in one moment ;)

but agree if you wont do anything with 2D/3Dgraphic and editing like me or music creation like Icy its waste ;)

@ Icy: If you want to overclock CPU get some Intel with K, like ShomilaC, these are made to overclock. I heard they went up to like 8.5 GHz. Ofc they used liquid nitrogen...

Also, i'm planning to get 2 SSD's (of about 100-120gb) and put them in RAID0 so i can have the double speed. So my map loading will be ultra fast xD (will be about 1.5 sec to load Dota).
