It's because Culling blade debuffs before doing damage nubz. And if u didn't know by now, linken sphere is a buff.

why in game? I can demostrate it here also:

You buy linken and there you have it OMG LINKEN imba item, pro item, great item, and after a few while I mean after stealing couple of kills, autoattacking 100 creeps you buy SPHERE, dude can u imagine SPHERE (wohoooooo) and there u have it both LINKEN + SPHERE = LINKENSPHERE, dude when u click on linken inside ( I mean inside of sphere) no one can harm you anymore in game, you get like infinite armor for 3 seconds. It is imba man, you have to win.

GG no RE!!!!

Anyone have some other opinions about linken+spehere = linkensphere the best item on teh world after branch.

it stops culling blade if its not lethal, if it's going to kill u, it's going to kill you.
