why everyone says centaur axe and bristle... there are so many others chars that can tank in a game... as i see noone said anything about davion... why? :/ he is one of the best tanks in dota. what about pandaren brewmaster? what about enchantress... noone said anyhting about them... tank cant be named only a str hero... i have played enchantrees and i have made BoT- vanguard- Pipe-mekansm-assault and shivas... and with untouchable and Nature's Attendants is easy to die?. enchantrees for me is one of the best tank-supporters heros (as omnyknight as well ). I agree axe centaur and bristle are at top tanks in dota but all i want to say is there are so many other and you talk about those 3 Annoula in game
How Tanks WorkA tank needs some sort of ability to keep its allies alive. For a real world tank, that was having armor and putting itself between the infantry and the enemy fire. For an MMORPG tank that means relying on a game mechanic where the mentally retarded AI simply chooses to attack the tank and ignore the real threats. Being durable enough to take the punishment is important too; however, the key task for a tank is getting targeted in the first place.For a hero in DotA to be a tank, they have to be able to do this somehow. However, there is a snag.First off, unlike MMORPGs, the enemies you play against in DotA are humans who are fully capable of targeting whomever they want. This means that even if you have loads of armor and HP, if the enemy can simply ignore you to focus on your allies who do more DPS, you are not a tank.Second, unlike real life, in DotA the haxxor enemy Drow Ranger is quite capable of shooting right through you to hit allies behind you. Thus you cannot tank by providing cover despite how ridiculously large your Tidehunter is.So, you may ask, how the heck do you be a tank in DotA? Well, the short answer is that you don’t. Tanks simply do not exist in DotA in the same sense that they do in MMORPGs like WoW. It is certainly true that some heroes are harder to kill than others, but simply being hard to kill does not make you a tank. Remember, the whole point of a tank is to keep your allies alive by absorbing the damage yourself. It is quite normal and acceptable for there to be no tank in a team of DotA heroes. Unlike an MMORPG, having a tank in DotA is absolutely not necessary; mainly because tanking is nowhere near as effective in DotA due to the lack of mechanics to support it.
"Centaur is NOT a tank. any decent player will ignore him in team fight, and he has no way to force enemy to attack him.Axe is the only real tank, cause he has berserk.Farmed Medusa is another pseudo tank late game. cause she is the only hero what can tank a lot and do crazy amounts of dmg at the same time, thus enemy is forced to take her down first. BB if gets radiance fast, can be anoying tankish hero. cause with radiance and quills he will become the first target. but later on when radiance and quils dont do that much dmg anymore or he doesn't manage to get a fast radiance he can be ignored in team fight.in dota you have to be able to deal considerable dmg or screw up team fights for enemy somehow to get focused. just then you will be a tank. if you have 6000k hp but you deal no dmg, you're no tank"Quoted from playdota.com, very simple... u r not tank unless some1 is hitting u, and if opponents have no reason to hit u 1st than u r useless...
2 HoT , PT on agi , diff blade , butterfly and mkb... Try to kill Phantom Lancer! BtW in dota u cant say "who the best tank is", because every game is different and every hero has pros and cons... For example u say medusa is a good tank, and I agree, but in a game without Magina or any other hero with diff blade... Or try tanking any hero against Mortred with bkb , PT and 4 battle furies...can it be done???U cant dissable her unless u got void on your team...So in my humble opinion Phantom Lancer is the best tank...also Viper ---> 2 HoT almost indistructable, and also does much dps, but it all depends from game to game...bb gl&hf

The best tank ever is alchemist,ulti gives imba regen,hp,ms and acid spray lowers armour + 4 sec stun imbaaaaaaaaa.
