I guess if you join on original blizzard server it might autoupdate, I remember many years ago when eurobattle and northrend had different versions, thats when switcher was introduced so you can upgrade/downgrade your w3 at anytime to play on server that you want. But if you don't play on any original server I don't think you will have this problem just don't upgrade

Well in my opinion, many people might return to warcraft 3, original servers obviously..

I guess they thought (with the film coming out summer) they might get attention of younger audience- those who were too young to play w3 in its prime, and play on nostalgia of some old players who quilted.

but comparing to new games w3 graphics suck, and kidz nowdays are all about graphics, trust me, I showed not so long ago Half Life to my 12 years old nephew. He said "That game is shit graphic is all squares".

He ran quickly enough as I was reaching for my crowbar.

Sad reality of widespread casual gaming we have these days: it might be more commonly accepted, but it's not about gameplay anymore. At least not to the extent it used to be. Long live indie industry, I guess.

This recent patch is just a compatibility upgrade but since they hinted their intent to get some actual content changes done in future, I guess there's still something to look forward to.

if THIS video is truth, we might be expecting some more features (ie: chat & voice comunication--imo part of their game client {similar to steam}) in the future which might just raise a knowledge of w3 and finally reveal W4.

Well honestly, this update by itself won't generate any of the younger audience at all. This is definitely for those who still playing it regularly. I think they should have make a warcraft 4 with their sc2 engine years ago, and i think it wouldn't be hard for them at all. A move like that could make a big difference and a whole bunch of new players for them. With the movie coming out, it would be a totally best decision to push out a warcraft 4 around that time. Incredble hype, shitloads of new players, shitloads of money for blizzard. Everybody would make that call, but I think blizzard won't do anything at all, and let their best opportunities swim away as usual
Srsly if Valve would make a game which is totally a warcraft 4 with different names but following story etc, and do the same that they did with dota2, Blizzard would became the biggest looser that the game industry have ever seen.

The movie may bring new players but I bet they all will be like "WTF, the movie has nothing in common with the game, some Thrall, Arthas and Archimonde. Where's Lothar, Cho'gal and Nerzhul?"

I don't think they will look for Warcraft 1 + 2. And if they will, they'll see release date and "gg, wp" *starts Skyrim*

This release is more to give some hope to people that are still playing the old games than to attract new players.

People who play old games are also likely older and more likely to purchase this. $ in mind with this patch. Nothing unusual, although it may seem unexpected to the untrained eye.
