Title: Feedback on Graphics Ladder!
Post by: Rocka on March 26, 2013, 16:09
Hey guys, as you can see our ladder(test version) is launched!

We would appreciate ALL your feedback about it to improve it to get even better!
So post your opinions and dont hesitate to ask about anything, there will be some changes but the main idea is ready and the most important thing, you can see eachothers points.

I hope to receive good feedback!

Regards,
GFX Team

Couple of random thoughts from notorious statwhore. Mechanical picky-whiny stuff mostly. Primarly adressed to KingW3, I guess.

1) Table header could use some minor tweaks, "Joining SOTW" gets out of the order.

2) Rank number column doesn't need nearly as much space :P

3) Predicting 100 pages is waaaaaaaay far-fetched... In fact, removing pages entirely could work. I'd be surprised if you ever exceeded 100 unique participants (not that I wish you so). Basically, just dump entire list on one page, bam, done.

4) You could use some sort of explanation for the points. I guess that "showroom" column gives you points for showroom, which is varies per submission, yet other colums simply provide number of X events, without any information about weighting (referring to point system thread is somewhat impractical) and without consistency.

What I thought is making it provide slightly more info - say, by default, coulumn would give you total points gained from respective category, and beside it - maybe in parenthesis, maybe using simple onmouseover popup - number of works/participations that were used in calculating this score.

I guess this is simple, single sql table right now, but this has some downsides - most importantly, make one mistake, and you'll have to re-calculate entire field for an user. Ideally you could split it into multiple tables, storing data about individual submissions in each category, while main table (user table) could collect the data, calculate it, and be displayed. I could go into details, but it exceeds this post.

This approach could even let you make some sort of per-user pages, listing stuff more detalied, and would help you track what, when, how high, and by who were entries added to ranking.

... But  maybe it's just throwing a grenade against a fly, dunno :D

5) I suck when it comes to designing visuals, but logo is awkwardly streched

2.Done
3.I agree,we'll never need 100 pages for sure but i'm not sure how to alter it(yet)
4.Do you mean making a page for a user,so basically you can see something like
xx has won SOTW #48
<picture of SOTW #48>
Joined PSC #14
<picture of PSC #14>
Or you meant something else?
5.It scratches a bit on lower resolution(it works nice in 1680x1050),anyway i think i fixed it for lower resolutions also.

Ok. You could put it another way, anyway this is untill we have our normal banner fixed.

Will be done, we took 1 amount for each work in showrooms atm, next will be judged on skills.

divide,
thanks for the reply. KingW3(the coder of our ladder) will look into the points.
the banner will be edited whenever we finish a better one.

Something like that. Nickname linking to a separate page with listing of all accepted works from that user. As for works itself, hyperlinks could suffice, but if you feel pro, you might try to parse it to distinguish videos from photos (or just use appropriate flag :P) and actually load some minatures. And each position would need to be labelled for being used in showroom / competitions / winning competitions etc.

But again, you'd have to start out re-designing database (now it's just a plain table with raw values in each field, isn't it?), and then filling it wih more precise data.

I honestly don't have any problems with the 'Joining SOTW/PSC/PMC' this way we see peoples activity and it can be something people are proud of

i think its good, just add how many points he got from winning competition

coz in the ladder in some columns u have psr for specific figure, but in other u have the amount of work not psr, maybe confusing :D

only showroom shows the amount of total points you get for it since its easier to just add the points you think the works are worth instead of coding option to add 1 or 2 points. that way you cant trace it either anyway. for the rest its the amount of 'joins or wins' and not the total points u get for it

 - Adding works(Photoshop) to your showroom +1~2*
- Accepting or challenging in GFX battles +1**
When are these votes written in the ladder?
When the GFX Battle ends?
When u have +5 new works in showroom?
Cos i have accepted and have added works to my showroom.

btw focus some chagnges on gfx battles

like setting referee and when he gets 2 works he make thread, or the one who challenged shows 1 and nly 1 frigging piece of work not 1000 and u can choose lol.

also add some limits to voting like, only gfx members can vote or smth...:))

guys when u dont make voting topics for specific competition, its losing hype here in gfx area and getting boring, lazy and emo aura xD
